About the Allston, Massachusetts Area
Allston village has an amazing array of restaurants. From typical pizza joints filled with BU students, ethnic eateries like Brazilian, authentic Chinese, Salvadoran, even a Burmese restaurant. Some of my faves include: Jo Jo Taipei: This authentic Taiwanese restaurant is famous locally for being the home of “stinky” tofu. This Taiwanese favorite is fermented tofu and can be rather pungent to say the least. Its menu is wide and varied with great options for the daring eater and the more conservative of us. Kelly’s Roast Beef: A staple of the North Shore for the last 40 years, this local giant is ready to open its first outpost in Boston proper. At the corner of Commonwealth Ave. and Harvard, Kelly’s promises to offer more of their roast beef sandwiches, clam plates, and other seafood gems. It will interesting to see how Kelly’s will be welcomed by the local student population. My guess is to look for long lines! Shanghai Gate: Another Chinese place, but this one concentrates on the Shanghai cuisine of China. Walking into Shanghai Gate, you will notice the many Asian faces dining on their favorites. This is always a good sign! Adventurous diners can choose from the hot and cold starters and the many enticing entrees. I am fond of the whole fish with hot Chinese peppers. Great stuff!
